Do you sometimes feel like the Energizer Bunny with a weak battery?
You start out strong, but by mid afternoon you start to fade.
We all get tired from time to time, but fatigue tends to become more common as we get older.
Assuming your doctor has ruled out medical causes for persistent fatigue, there are a few basic steps you can take to maintain your energy or to feel more energetic.
1) Pace yourself. Instead of burning though all your battery life in two hours, spread it out between morning tasks, afternoon tasks, and evening activities - with rest and meals in between.
Consider these strategies to get the most mileage from your battery.
2) Take a nap. A short power nap can restore energy, but if you struggle to get enough sleep at night, napping can make insomnia worse. If you are not an insomniac, though, enjoy that 10 to 15 minute power nap.
3) Avoid most energy supplements. Beside's the sugar and caffeine in them, there is no concrete evidence that energy-boosting supplements really work. Some modern hypesters advocate taking: Iron and B vitamins. Iron is only beneficial if you are clearly deficient, which a doctor can check with a blood test.
Unless you are low in iron, you don't need to take it, and getting too much iron can be harmful.
It is true that B vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B12) help the body convert food into the form of energy that cells can burn, but it's a myth that taking in more B vitamins supercharges your cells.
4) Eat long-lasting fuel. Your body burns through sugars and highly processed simple carbohydrates, like white bread, white rice, or pastries more rapidly than protein and the complex carbohydrates in whole grains. Instead of having a coffee and a bagel, try low-fat yogurt with a sprinkling of nuts and a fruit.
Your body will take in the carb-fiber-protein mix more gradually.
To really sustain yourself over the course of the day, eat a breakfast and a lunch that include complex carbohydrates and protein.
Don't skip meals. It's better to evenly space your meals out so your body gets the nourishment it needs all through the day.
5) Keep moving, stay active. Don't be a couch potato. The reason for this is very simple. The more energy you burn the burn energy you can create.
There you have it. My top 5 picks to help boost your energy.
Till next time have a great week.
I want to clear the air.
Over the last couple of years, I've heard some pretty big lies in the world of health and wellness.
Here's one of the biggest: "Just follow your passion, have a positive mind, eat fruits and vegetables and you will have a good healthy life"
Have you heard that one? Well, I wish it was true, but it just isn't. Here's why these lies (and all the others that are out there) are so insidious, though: each lie contains a kernel of truth.
Passion, for example, is critically important in building a good life.
Would you agree?
I hate these lies, because they set people up to fail. (Think about it - does it really make sense that it wouldn't take any time, money, or effort to build a good healthy life?)
That's not what I want, not for anyone, and definitely not for you.
And that's why I'm so passionate about being a Massage Therapist. The live, interactive hands-on therapy, gives me the chance to directly help you by removing or reducing your stress and pain.
Would it make your life a bit easier if you had just a little more energy and a little less stress and pain?
That' what I thought............
If you are feeling tired, stressed, and suffering from chronic pain, I can help. Just call 416 994 4106 book an appointment, that is your first step to relief.
Thank you and have a great day.

Recently, a friend was trying to show me a different way at looking at food and its relationship to my body.
This is what he said to me: "Food is the materials you use to fuel and build your body. So depending on the purpose for which you intend to use your body, the food you put in it makes a world of difference.
Consider this for a moment. You design the most beautiful tower, like the CN tower, but use inferior material to build it. Would the tower stand for very long? No, right?
Now look in the animal kingdom. Animals eat according to their design and purpose. Likewise, human should follow the same model. For instance, if you want to be a farmer you eat one way and if you want to work in an office you must eat another way. There is no need for an office worker to eat like a farmer because the requirements of the body is completely different. Therefore, if you want to be energetic and quick thinking, most of what you eat right now will not give you that result.
Here are some simple facts to consider.
The human alimentary canal is approximately 20-30 feet long. It takes raw meat 70-72 hours to pass through it, cooked meat 48-52 hours, cooked vegetable takes 24-30 hours, raw vegetables 12-15 hours, and fruits 2.5-3 hours.
The body uses approximately 8-15% of its total energy expenditure to digest food. And if you are spending nearly 30% of your week digesting food, how energetic or efficient do you think you will be?
Did you know that if you leave meat out for 72 hours, it will rot? Well, the same thing is happening inside your body. When you combine this with preservatives, refined sugars and processed foods, what do you think will happen to you?"
The conversation went on for quite awhile with some pretty interesting views on food. I'm not saying that I agree with all of what he had to say; however, I had to sit quietly and think for a moment because some of what he said really hit home.
How about you? How do you eat? Will you think about your next meal and make some changes in light of this information?
Till next time, have a great week.
Did you make a new years resolution to improve your health back in January?
Did you plan on working out, get regular massages and eat right.
If you said yes I have some breaking news to share with you......
I was reading an article last week and here is what I found out.......
According to the Centers for Disease Control, you get almost one-third of your sodium from breads or bread products, chicken and chicken dishes, pizza, egg dishes, and pasta dishes. This is partly because these foods contain added salt and partly because your eat them so often.
Now add your guilty treats: potato chips, popcorn, hot dogs, pizza, pickles, and list goes on because there are plenty of high-sodium foods you probably aren't aware of, like sweets.
If that is not enough here is the kicker...
Up to 80% of the salt in your food was put there by someone other than you.
Why should this matter to you?
Your body needs a little bit of the sodium in salt to contract muscles, send nerve impulses, and maintain a healthy balance of fluids.
But too much is very BAD for you.
Here is why....
Sodium can increase blood pressure, make the heart work harder, thicken and stiffen blood vessels, and more. Higher salt and sodium consumption have been linked to increased risk of heart disease and stroke.
Don't freak out..!!!
...I have some tips to help you. I use them and they help cut back on my sodium intake and and help me feel less guilty when I grab that big bag of chips while sitting at home watching a movie.
How can you avoid these hidden salt mines and save you heart?
Read food labels carefully: Look at both the amount of sodium per serving and the recommended daily sodium allowance percentage.
Shop for products labeled "salt free," or "no salt added," or "low-sodium."
Avoid condiments such as soy sauce, ketchup, teriyaki sauce, and salad dressings, which tend to be loaded with salt.
Another good strategy is to limit your use of prepared and processed foods, which tend to be made with a lot of salt.
Adding more fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables to your diet can also lower sodium and increase potassium.
Restaurant foods are often loaded with salt. Many restaurants now offer low-sodium choices.
If your food is being made to order, don't hesitate to ask that it be made without salt.
Drink Lots of clear pure water and exercise.
Hope this helps
Thank for reading and remember to book you massage appointment this today because when you leave it for too long the , stress , aches and pain only gets worse.
To your health,
Why am I talking about shoelaces? Actually there are three reasons:
1) The shoelace was invented on February 9th, 1790 and in celebration of this special occasion (a tool we all use every day of our lives) I wanted to share it with you.
2) A reminder for tying up your shoelaces because last week we had 5 incidents of injury caused by tripping over untied shoelaces.
3) As the letter you are reading involves tying up some loose ends I thought it very appropriate as an attention grabber. In looking back over the past week, I noticed I was not in touch with you and I want to apologize for my mistake.
Today I have breaking News for you.....
February is Heart month and to show appreciation for this great Organ, Esu Massage is reminding YOU to keep it healthy.
You see, studies have shown that blood circulation increased by 42% following a Massage which directly has a positive effect on the function of your Heart.
Do you love your Heart?
Do you want to keep it healthy?
The health of your heart is serious business, so please remember to keep it healthy.
To your health,
PS-Happy belated birthday to Bob Marley( Feb 6), the man who gave us the phrase "One Love, One Heart"
Today we’re gonna talk about sleep. Most of us don’t sleep.....
You don’t sleep enough...... You may even think that you can store up sleep. But you can't.
Have you ever said? "Oh, it’s okay I’ll catch on my sleep this weekend."
But sadly that doesn't work. That’s not how we’re designed physiologically.
Our bodies need the same amount of sleep every night. Now, I know that with very young kids that’s a problem. The kids are waking you up every night. I get it, and until your family gets older there’s not much you can do. But if you don't have very young kids then you must get your sleep.
Here is why....
Between 12:00am and 2:00 a.m. is when you release growth hormone and another little peak around 8:00 a.m. During these two peeks if you are not in your deep sleep, you cannot release growth hormone and cortisol ( stress hormone) levels will automatically rise.
Your body will get inflamed and disease will inevitably set in. No doubt about it.
Here’s another little caveat. Sleeping pills do not get you into the deepest third and fourth levels of your sleep. These are the deep stages, where you release growth hormone. So if you take sleeping pills, your growth hormone starts to plummet.
That’s why you often don’t feel well rested in the morning because you never got to the deep levels of sleep. There are much better sleep aids like massage therapy and exercise. You may want to try those instead if you are having sleeping troubles.
So to reiterate, you’ve got to get to your deep levels of sleep to stay healthy. You need to sleep consistently. We don’t store sleep.
On this note I'll end it for this week. Thanks for reading.
To your health.
We have to be honest, we all get stressed out and hurt our bodies – sometimes bad, sometimes not so bad.
No matter how bad we mess up ourselves – we have to do what’s best to get back in our body’s good books.
One of the easiest ways to dig yourself out, is to pamper yourself with a Massage. You deserve some special attention too, am I right?
What I am about to share with you will make it easier to go get pampered. "Stress WILL make you sick!!"
According to Jerrold Greenberg - who is a stress management expert, " An increase in serum cholesterol during stressful periods can contribute to increases in pain sensations, hypertension and heart disease"
Do your think decreasing the risk of heart disease is a good idea?
I know your time is short....
Too many things piling up at work.....
Lots to do at home...
It is tough to even think about yourself most of the time. But the scary thing is that stress and Pain doesn't magically go away and the number one reason is; the lack of proper professional care.
So lets get this problem fixed asap!
I am inviting you to come see your therapist once a month for the rest of this year.
How does this benefit you?...
Your therapist will have an ongoing 30 day update of your health. If there are any abnormal changes in your body, your therapist will likely notice it quickly and make corrections or suggestions.
Till next time
